The Credential for the Emerging GIS Professional
The GISCI is launching the PreGISP program as a pathway for emerging leaders in the GIS field to start on the path to the GISP credential. The PreGISP will:
- Guide graduates from academic careers to professional ones
- Provide a status while gaining field experience
- Serve as the official precursor to the GISP.
What is the PreGISP Program?
The GISCI has created the PreGISP program as a pathway for graduates to move from their academic careers into professional ones. It is designed as an entry point into the GISP program while still standing alone a credential.
What is the PreGISP Credential?
The PreGISP will be a short-term credential that can only be earned once and is a precursor to a GISP. The PreGISP will expire after three years and cannot be renewed. Candidates that earn the credential may use post-nominal ‘GISP-E’ after their name to signify their accomplishment as an Emerging GIS Professional.
How do I Become a GISP-E?
The GISCI will offer a PreGISP credential to graduates that complete the requirements of the program. The candidate must take and pass the PreGISP test and be a graduate of an accredited academic institution or set to graduate at the conclusion of the semester. The credential is good for three years and cannot be renewed.
Who is a GISP-E candidate?
Students of any accredited institution that are nearing completion of their studies. The candidate should be within one semester of graduation with plans to head into the geospatial workforce. (In the initial years there will be a greater allowance of candidates to accommodate recent graduates).
How Much Will It Cost?
The cost will be $100 - $150 to take the online proctored exam. There will not be any annual maintenance fees assessed.
When Does the Program Start?
The program will roll out in Spring of 2025.
