An individual must have at least 4 years of professional experience, meet the requirements of the Portfolio Review process, and pass the GISCI Core Technical Exam in order to be awarded the GISP Certification. However, you may start the process at any time in your career.
To meet the required 150 points, an additional 52 points can be counted from the Education, Experience, or Contribution categories. The applicant has complete flexibility in deciding how to make up this difference with any combination of points from one or more of the categories. Once you pass the Exam, you have up to six(6) years to meet the Portfolio Requirements without having to start the process over.
GISCI uses an online portfolio that will become the repository of all your achievements for your first GISP certification and subsequent recertifications. This is a personalized digital space where GIS professionals can store all their professional accomplishments; from credentials and certifications to professional webinars, conferences, and membership and more, the Portfolio is the home for all of your achievements.
